Governance

The purpose of governance is:

To provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance.

All boards, no matter what type of schools or how many schools they govern, have three core functions:

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

On 18th March 2016 the School Governance Constitution Regulations 2012 was amended so that all serving governors in maintained schools will be required to have an enhanced criminal records certificate (ECRC). This means that, by 1 September 2016, all serving governors must have an enhanced DBS and, from April 1 2016, governing bodies must have applied for an ECRC within 21 days of the election or appointment of a new governor.

We can confirm that all governors at St. Aidan's have had this completed, or are in the process of this being done.

Local Governing Committee Members

Kelly Harrison

I am the Headteacher and staff governor. I share the views and where, appropriate, the concerns of staff with the governing body and act as a conduit between staff and the governing body. I am passionate about quality teaching and learning, having over 18 years’ experience in education myself. Outside of work, I love watching my son play football for a local football team and walking my dog with my husband.

Stephen Dockerill

Chair of Governors/Maths

My name is Stephen Dockerill, my son Lennon is in year 6 at St. Aidan’s and we are locally based in Blackburn. I was interested in joining the parent governor group because I am passionate about education and felt I could contribute to the ongoing success of the school. I am committed to attending meetings, visits and training sessions and have time to dedicate myself to this role. My position at Together Housing means I am actively involved in helping communities and individuals from all backgrounds, skills which I believe can be transferred to support the school and its governing body. I firmly believe that every child deserves access to a high-quality education, and as a dedicated Christian, I hope to be able to contribute and promote the academic development of the children, as well as the Christian values of the school. I hope to actively engage with parents and teachers, listening to their concerns, and ensuring that their voices are heard in decision-making processes. In my spare time my family and I enjoy days out and generally spending time together. I enjoy playing chess and am an avid reader.

Peter Lee

Pupil Premium

I am proud to have recently joined the board of governors at St Aidan’s as it’s foundation governor. I have been a governor in varying roles for the past 20 years in secondary schools, but now pleased to be working with a primary school within a multi academy trust. Locally based though out of Blackburn, I have worked in education technology for the past 22 with the likes of Promethean, LEB Partnership and Learning by Questions. The role of governor assists with teaching you the values of education and a very realistic view of the challenges faced daily by a school. I passionately believe in equality and that all of our learners should have the best possible opportunities at the start of their journey. I am here to support our learners and our fantastic team of leaders and teachers. Working together we can see our school become a beacon of excellence in the local area. When not working or being a governor it’s a love of loud music, family, campervans, interesting reads, dogs and Hull Kingston Rovers (which probably explains my eternal optimism).

Early reading and phonics

This is my first appointment as a governor and I look forward to being heavily involved in the role. I attended St Aidan’s myself, and currently have one child in the school and one who is now at College, who also attended St Aidan’s. My full time role is Lecturing at the University of Bolton, which links in with my passion for teaching and education. I have drive for Education and want to bring to St Aidan’s any knowledge and skills within my current role to assist in the role as Governor. I am also a Registered Paramedic and therefore am fully aware of standards and protocols within a work place environment and appreciate the importance of understanding what is expected when adhering to these. I look forward to using any strengths and opportunities we are faced with to overcome any challenges and threats and be part of the governing team that strives our school within the local area. Outside of work I support both of my daughters in their sports of Netball and Gymnastics and learning how to train our new Dalmatian puppy! I am extremely passionate about the role and look forward to achieving great things as a St Aidan’s foundation governor.

Leanne Proctor

Sports Premium and personal development governor (foundation)

My name is Leanne Procter, and I joined the school governing body at the end of 2024. I grew up in Mill Hill and attended St Aidan’s School, continuing a family tradition as a third-generation pupil, my nephew also attended. As a proud mother to my 9-year-old son, I am deeply invested in our local community. I own and operate Unit 2 Fitness for Women, a gym dedicated to empowering women, and I am CEO of The Billy Project, which supports vulnerable females. Additionally, I work as a consultant for BwD, focusing on initiatives to encourage physical activity within our community. I am also an active member of our local Food Alliance and collaborate regularly with various projects and organisations. I am passionate about providing support and opportunities for everyone in our community. I strongly believe in the value of early intervention and collaboration to effectively serve our needs. I am truly excited about my role as a governor and am committed to making a positive difference for our children and the wider community.

Lucy Houston

Safeguarding foundation governor and SEND

Cidari has a highly skilled Board of Trustees, approved by the Department for Education. The Board of Trustees delegate decision making for certain functions to a Local Governing Committee for each Academy. In Cidari each Academy has a Local Governing Committee (LGC). The LGC will continue to ensure that the needs of the Academy are monitored closely.

The structure of Cidari allows for more formalised, collaborative working whilst allowing the individual characteristics, distinctiveness and ethos of each academy to continue.

Cidari has a very small group of Members who are named for legal purposes. Members hold the trust board to account for the effective governance of the trust, the members themselves have a minimal role in the actual running of the trust. It is the trust board, not the members, who are the organisation’s key strategic decision makers. The MAT Board of Trustees has overall responsibility and accountability in law for the performance, site and overall running of the Trust and each of the Academies.
